Tribe Arfak

                      The Arfak community is the largest indigenous community in Manokwari district, most of whom reside in the center of the bird head of the island of papua. The Arfak tribe consists of several sub-tribes namely, Suogb, Hatam and Meyah which have the same customs and cultures but different languages. Uniquely, although different languages, sub-tribal people can understand each other and communicate directly.

                    The Arfak villages are located in the vicinity of Arfak Mountains Nature Reserve Area. Arfak Mountain Nature Reserve area reaches 68,325 Ha. In this area can be found 333 species of birds, 4 species of which are endemic Arfak Mountains, 110 species of mammals and also a center of diversity of birds wing Ornithopera Sp wings.

                   Traditionally Arfak people or tribes live in closed houses that have only two doors, front and back without windows. The shape is unique, built with the construction of houses on stilts made entirely of wood and grass weeds as a roof. Mod Aki Aksa or Igkojei is the original name of the traditional house of the great tribe of Arfak, the pole of this buff is so much that the layman calls it the House of the Thousand Feet. Today the population is diminishing and can only be found in the villages, the outskirts of the inland districts in the central part of the Arfak Mountains.
