                   The Asmat tribe is the name of the largest and most famous tribe among the many tribes in Papua, Irian Jaya, Indonesia. One of the things that make the tribe asmat known enough is the result of a very distinctive traditional wood carving. Some ornaments / motifs are often used and become the main theme in the sculpture sculpting process conducted by tribal people asmat is taking the theme of the ancestors of their tribe, commonly called mbis. But not stop there, often also found other ornaments / motifs that resemble a boat or wuramon, which they believe as a symbol of a boat that brings their ancestors in the realm of death. For indigenous tribes asmat, woodcarving is more a manifestation of their way of performing rituals in the remembrance of the spirits of their ancestors.

                   The area they live in is very unique. The soft brown flower is covered by the spider web of the river. The area inhabited by Asmat tribe has become its own Regency with the name of Asmat District with 7 District or District.
